Green Lantern Corps

The Green Lantern Corps was created by the Guardians of the Universe to curb the spread of evil in the universe. It is headquartered on the planet Oa. The Guardians broke the universe down into 3600 sectors. They recruited members from all parts of the galaxy. Bravery and extreme willpower were the two virtues prized above others as the Guardians created their intergalactic police force. The Earth is in Sector 2814. John Stewart is the Green Lantern currently assigned to that Sector of space.

The Green Lantern Corps has been around for centuries as the Guardians of the Galaxy created a police force to curb the spread of evil around the universe. Sector 2814 is the sector of 3600 that includes the planet Earth. John Stewart was selected into the Green Lantern Corps and sent to train under the Lantern Katma Tui.

Sector 2814 already had a Green Lantern by the name of Abin Sur so Stewart was assigned another sector of space. Abin Sur fell victim to the power hungry renegade Sinestro was attempting to kill Lanterns and take their rings. Abin Sur was able to send his ring in search of another. This other was the Daily Planet illustrator named Kyle Rayner. Kyle Rayner became a Green Lantern, and with the aid of Superman, was able to defeat Sinestro. Kyle was sent to Oa for training and John Stewart was assigned Sector 2814 where he became one of the founding members of the Justice League during the Imperium Invasion.

The Guardians recognized the heroic valor of the Justice League and had no issue with John Stewart being a member of both organizations. With the Justice League, the Green Lantern Corps gained more credibility within Sector 2814. Recently, Kyle Rayner returned from Oa to work as a resident Green Lantern under John Stewart's tutelage. Another on Earth was recognized for having the courage and willpower that the Green Lantern Corps coveted. His name was Hal Jordan. He was taken to Oa to train and has since been "stashed" on Earth until another Sector opens up.

Equipment

A Green Lantern power ring.

All Green Lanterns are given a power ring which bears the emblem of the Green Lantern Corps. The ring is operated by the concentration and willpower of the user. It projects green energy that can be harnessed to the user's imagination. The energy comes to the ring from the Central Battery on Oa which was created and is maintained by the Guardians of the Galaxy. The ring can hold a charge of power for up to 24 hours before needing recharging. The energy it projects cannot affect the color yellow. The ring can be used as a data base of the wisdom of the Guardians, a universal translator, and an analytical tool to identify energies and compositions.
